  • What is a weapon light?

    A weapon light is a flashlight designed to mount directly to a firearm - typically on a pistol rail, rifle handguard, or shotgun forend. Unlike handheld lights, weapon lights allow a shooter to illuminate a target while maintaining a proper two-handed grip on the firearm. They're used by law enforcement, military personnel, home defenders, and competitive shooters who need reliable light on demand without sacrificing weapon control.

  • How many lumens does a weapon light need?

    For law enforcement use, 500–1000 lumens is widely considered the practical standard. Rifle-mounted lights used outdoors or for longer-range identification benefit from 1000–2000+ lumens. Raw lumen output isn't everything - beam quality, throw distance, and candela (peak beam intensity) matter just as much. A well-focused 500-lumen beam can outperform a floody 1000-lumen light at distance.

  • What is candela and why does it matter for weapon lights?

    Candela measures the peak intensity of the center of a light's beam - essentially how far and how hard the light throws. A high-candela weapon light penetrates darkness at distance, which is critical for target identification beyond close range. Lumens measure total light output; candela measures focused power. For weapon lights, high candela is often more important than high lumens - especially for rifle applications or outdoor use.

  • What activation switch options do weapon lights have?

    Weapon lights typically offer one or more of the following switch configurations:

    Tail switch - a push-button at the rear of the light, often with momentary-on and constant-on modes.
    Ambidextrous paddle switches - accessible from either side, popular on duty pistol lights.
    Remote pressure switch - a separate switch mounted to the handguard or railt, allowing activation without repositioning the firing or support hand; common for rifle setups.
